Impressions of beauty change with time – as do our faces as we age. With Dermal Fillers, you can have a natural beauty lift with the body’s own material. Juvederm, Perlane, and Restylane are clear, non-animal, biodegradable gel based on a natural substance called hyaluronic acid. The gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The result is instantaneous and produces a long-lasting, natural enhancement that is gentle and safe for your skin.

FAQs

How is a Treatment Performed?

During treatment, the crystal-clear gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The gel produces volume under the wrinkle, which is lifted up and smoothed out. When enhancing lips or facial contours, dermal fillers add volume and shape to the treated area.

How Long Will the Treatment Session Take?

Treatment with Dermal Fillers is a quick and easy process. As no pre-test is needed, the treatment can be carried out immediately. A treatment generally takes 30 to 45 minutes. The time differs somewhat, depending on the correction you wish to have performed.

Is a Skin Test Required?

No. Treatment with all the dermal fillers offered at Aesthetic Laser Care does not require the use of a skin test prior to treatment.

What Can Be Treated?

Dermal Fillers can be used for smoothing out folds and wrinkles, lip enhancements and shaping facial contours. The most common areas are the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows), the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of the mouth) and the lips, although other sites can also be treated. Very superficial or very deep wrinkles may be difficult to correct. Dr. Lafkas will consult with you before any dermal filler treatment to insure you are a good candidate.

How Long will the Treatment Last?

Dermal Filler wrinkle treatments are long-lasting but not permanent. This means that you always have the option to assess your looks. The length of time a treatment maintains its effect is very individual and depends on many factors, such as your age, skin type, injection site, life-style and muscle activity, as well as the injection technique. Experience shows that most of the dermal fillers used by Dr. Lafkas can be effective for up to one year for nasolabial folds, and up to six months for lip enhancements. Together with Dr. Lafkas, you can draw up a plan for regular future visits to maintain the result. Most patients choose to have a follow-up treatment six to twelve months after the initial treatment.

Does it Hurt?

Most people find the injections easily tolerable. Dr. Lafkas performs nerve blocks for most clients receiving treatment around the mouth, as this area can be fairly painful without the nerve block. You will be numb for 2 to 3 hours after the nerve block. This is similar to nerve blocks used during dental procedures.

How Soon will I See the Results?

The results will be seen immediately.

What will I Look Like After the Treatment?

Immediately after the treatment, you can expect slight redness, swelling, tenderness or an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The discomfort is temporary and generally disappears in a few days. After a lip treatment, the lips may become swollen and look somewhat uneven. This can persist for a few days (up to a week). If the discomfort continues, please contact Dr. Lafkas.

What should I Bear in Mind After my Dermal Filler Treatment?

During the first 24 hours after your treatment, do not massage or rub the treated area. If you have had a lip enhancement, avoid puckering your lips for the first two days after the treatment. Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. in a solarium or by sunbathing) or extreme cold.

Can Dermal Fillers be Removed or Dissolved?

Yes, all hyaluronic acid based products (Restylane, Juvederm, and Perlane) can be broken down in days using a special enzyme called Hyaluronidase. Therefore, the results are reversible. However, hyalronic-acid based dermal fillers also dissolve naturally with time. If you feel uncertain about the desired result, you can choose to have the treatment done in steps on different occasions. Note: Radiesse is not made of Hyaluronic acid and cannot be dissolved or broken down with the Hyaluronidase enzyme.
